My hatchling is so hyper. Good thing my aunt works from home and is able to watch him for me.
Any suggestions on how to get them from not flipping over so much? Or attempting too?

I think a lot of babies do this. Most of the time it will just wear off after about two weeks after they get used to a new enclosure. Don't worry, I think he will probably stop soon.

Congrats on the new tortoise!

Make sure there is lots of cover and places to hide. When they feel vulnerable, they will search for a safer area. I would add lots of plant cover like pothos, or even fake plants from Hobby Lobby to provide some cover.

If it's too hot, they will also run around trying to seek a cooler area.

Him at the moment. He fell asleep walking ? now he’s tucked in his shell. First time in his new enclosure, ate like a champ already. Now already comfortable and sleeping outside his hut.

It's not poisonous,@Markw84 uses it all the time in his hatchling enclosures. I suppose that you should not just purchase one and stick it in though, seeing as pothos at the store could have fertilizers and other stuff on it. I believe he raises his own, which would take some time. Fake plants from Hobby Lobby might be a better temporary solution.

Here is Mango.
The little baby tortoise footprints on the slate ??❤️ So stinking cute!! Congrats on your new baby.

I see you said you bought a fern. I’m sure you already know this, but just incase…Most plants sold have been sprayed with pesticides and/or other chemicals. Unless you got it from a source who you know for certain doesn’t use chemicals, I would remove it immediately from the enclosure so your wee one doesn’t get sick. The soil should be changed and the plant grown out for…most suggest 1 year before it is safe for the tortoise.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that I also have pothos in my enclosure that my little guy nibbles on once in awhile. They aren’t toxic to tortoises.

Thank you everyone?
he’s doing so well for his first day with me and being in his new enclosure. It already feels like I’ve had him forever! He’s sound asleep after pigging out :)

I enjoy the fake plants. I have a fake tropical plant in his enclosure now.

I was going to take the fern out of the soil it came in, and put it in fresh dirt from outback. To put in the tank. Might just keep the fern now though for myself.

All new parents have to baby-proof around the house.

And on day 1? All torts just want to go back home. So they race around, carelessly climb things, and flip over. This is why you have to be sure all of the environmental parameters are correct before a new reptile pet comes home - that eliminates one possible source of restlessness and panic.

Post photos of your entire setup for specific advice about baby-proofing for tort babies...and give us all the usual environmental data...

Thanks for your feedback @ZenHerper
I watch my little guy periodically at work from my phone. So watching his patterns now and so far so good. He basically stays on his slate walks around the enclosure a few times into his water bowl and back into the corner by his slate. No unusual behavior unlike the first few hours when I got him from shipment. I had him in a holiday container to travel back from m aunts who watched him for me while I was working. He is now in a raised landscape garden bed. Covered by plexiglass With artificial trop plants, rocks to aid in humidity, slate for eating and basking under his bulbs.

He slept great for me! slept from 6:30 pm to 6:50 am. Thats when I turned his lights back on. He has a similar schedule to my Russian already. Both lights go out once they decide it's time to go to bed.
