Caught in the act, I pressed the button to slow, that egg is a second old in the image. I don't get to see them lay to often. One traffic light more on the way home today and I'd have missed it.

Many lay on the surface, some push under the feed tile or the plastic top of a sweater box and lay. All kinds of strategies going on. So she made the 'cliff' herself, that was all more or less level before she started. I think many tortoises lay at the edge of something, maybe an ingrained habit so that there is more moisture, less foot traffic, all kinds of benefits.
