While outside today with Legolas I noticed on the side of his head he has a scab looking spot? Can anyone tell me what it is or what caused it? And what I can do to heal it?
Looks like he got poked with something. Clean with warm water, dab with some peroxide and then apply an antibiotic cream to it. Do the cleaning and antibiotic every day until healed, peroxide just once. Keep him inside until healed, so flies won't invade the area and lay their eggs and keep him off of dirt or coir and small type substrate that could get in it.
Where was he when you noticed the wound? Just looking at his head, eyes and shell, I'm wondering about where he spends most of his day. How long have you had your tort? Is he outdoors most of the time? What does his outdoor pen look like? The reason why I ask is because you seem to care a great deal about your salcata and I know you want to give him the best care possible. Also, since you're new on the forum, I'm wondering if you are learning new things in his care.
I have had him for a few months, got him shipped from Arizona. Weather in New Jersey has not been ideal as of yet so spends time indoors for the most part but is outdoors whenever he can be which he loves. I just noticed the sore today while I was on the floor laying by him. I just cleaned it and put antibiotic cream on it. Will keep him inside until it has healed. Thank you prompt responses, very much appreciated. I have read and gained a lot of knowledge on this forum. First post ever, but I will keep posted of his progress and will utilize this forum more and more
