Are raspberry leaves safe for a texas tort to eat? are there plants that look safe but should actually be avoided? (if that makes sense). I’m constantly looking up whats safe but most list I find on forums focus on sulcatas or russians. I want her to have better variety but I don’t want to continue relying on comparing google lists and individually looking up each overlapping plant ya know?

Any plant that is safe for one species of tortoise is safe for your tortoise too. The exception would be the forest tortoises that also eat fruit and protein in addition to the greens. Your species only needs the greens, but any of the safe greens are fine.

There is no shortcut to learning your local weeds and plants. I am still learning them constantly. It never ends. I have a couple of nurseries that I can go to with samples, and they have plant nerds that know what everything is. Then I have to try to figure out if it is toxic or not.

I don't know about raspberry leaves. I've never used them and don't have any.

Im sure raspberry leaves are safe to eat, but the question is whether or not your tort will eat them.

Variety, variety, variety.

Common Name: Bramble
Latin Name: Rubus spp., esp. Rubus fruticosus
Family Name: Rosaceae
New leaf growth and flowers are fine in moderation, but Bramble leaves do contain tannins and other astringent substances and some tortoises might find the taste unpalatable. Do not feed the fruit unless your tortoise is a fruit-eating species. Flowers are usually white, but occasionally pink.
