@leigti - I live in southern Alaska. I am about 3 hours each way from Walmart to give you an idea how small of a town I'm in. We have a safeway, a tiny Ulmers (True Value but with home wares) and a gas station pretty much.
@leigti - I have not been able to get my hands on pure ammonia it all has surfactant in it (soap) so I can't do that. I live in rural Alaska so I have a hard time with stuff like that.
@ZEROPILOT - As Jodie said, Gumbo was stiff when I found him. He was 100% gone.
@Jodie - I will just go ahead and replace the substrate. I've got about 50+lbs of dry coco coir in there baking it would take over a week in small batches. Should I be concerned about anything contaminating the...
@Neal Nothing out of the ordinary. He was active, pooped in his bath and ate the night before. I went in the following morning to turn on his lights, give him his morning bath and feed him and he was gone. He has always been in a closed chamber and fed/cared for as per reccomended by my...
My beautiful little leopard tort, Gumbo recently passed away. Neither the breeder (Jodie) or I are quite sure why as my setup, routine and feeding schedule were correct but he is gone and that is neither here nor there. Unfortunately, living in Alaska our temps have dropped below safe shipping...
In the next year it will be replaced with an adult plywood enclosure, regardless. Not an issue there, $50 well spent while it lasts.
I'm not quite sure why 3 flood lights and a CHE isn't enough in a greenhouse. All of my temps are fine. Also not sure why I would need ferts, I have none in...
@naturalman91 He is a 5 month old (3") leopard tortoise and I live in Alaska, so yes, it will be grown indoors in his enclosure. Pics can be founds here - http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/my-easy-closed-chamber.143195/#post-1341936
I will also be purchasing a couple of clover mixes so I will only get the 6 oz. My enclosure is 80-100% humidity and 80-105 depending on the time (80 at night, basking spots and UVB during the day) and place in the enclosure. He is only 3" at the moment (around 5 months old) so it is just as...
I am ordering some Testudo Seed Mix from Tortoise Supply and I am not sure how much to order. I'm on a bit of a limited budget atm so I don't want to overorder and have a bunch extra. My enclosure is 6x3ft.
Thank you in advance!
@Carol S I bought the greenhouse on Amazon and the bottom is 3 heavy duty garden bins I cut the sides off of and hot glued together. It'll work good for us until he outgrows it and gets an entire room to himself.
@Speedy-1 I would rather be the annoying member that is on here every time he looks at me wrong and have everyone tell me he's fine than say "he's probably fine" and NOT ask, only for something serious to be going on. I treat everything I see wrong as my tortoise's life in my hands so when it...
@wellington If you look on the left side you can see a line, there is a full-length zipper there but those are the only three openings. It works perfect for us, it's 6ftx3ft and now that I have a larger base in it, it holds humidity and temps wonderfully. I do have a thread that explains it in...
@Tidgy's Dad It's hard to photograph because it's either always covered in condensation or it's reflecting the light from the window. It has all the fixin's though, I can assure you!
I have had my leopard tortoise for almost three and a half months now and he is finally starting to show some white growth which is very exciting! However, I've noticed his shell is not the most even when looking at him from the side, it's more egg-shaped. Is this normal for hatchlings or do I...
