I had been out all morning and just on a whim decided to stop at home before my next appt. Thank you intuition!!!! Because who do I find ON HIS BACK but my dear Sully Ned!! Super sad pyramiding :(

I saw this pic on a stock photo site and I actually felt sick. I've never seen pyramiding so bad before. AND because of this graphic some people will now think that this is what a normal healthy Sully looks like. That's sad too.

    Why is Pyramiding Bad?

I know pyramiding is bad for tortoises but it recently occurred to me that I'm not sure WHY... Does it cause internal problems? Or mobility issues? It it uncomfortable for them? Thanks!!

    Pyramiding & Age...

My dear Sully friend Ned (17lbs now) has some pyramiding that he got before we met. Does pyramiding only happen when torts are babies or might it continue to get worse since he's still growing? If so, what can I do to prevent it? Thanks!!!! Audra (adore) & Ned

    Soaking Water (pooping & drinking)

Hi all! I'm worried. I soak Ned, my 17lbs Sulcata once a week but it's always a big mess. I'm not worried about the clean up, I know he's supposed to poop & pee in there, but he usually does so first thing and then he's sitting in it for his whole soak, and the water he's supposed to drink is...

    Name that weed!! :)

So I just remembered that there's a big, definitely not treated with anything, field in the back of the property where I live! I never go there because there's so many foxtails but they're all green now. So I took some pictures of all the plants I saw back there so I could identify them and...

    Hissy Fits

My foster-Sulcata (found him 3 weeks ago, still searching for his people) has little hissy fits sometimes, stomping his feet and hissing, but only for few seconds. It's usually when he's startled, which I try very hard not to do, but occasionally it happens. Do all torts react so strongly to...

    Burrowing speed...

Hi all :) Approx how fast can a Sulcata dig a burrow? I'm wondering if, if my foster-tort started digging in the dirt part of my yard, would he be able to clear the fence and escape in 8-12(or less) hours or would I be about to see him and stop him before he was gone. Details: - the tort...

FOUND: Sulcata (male) in Lancaster, CA

A couple weeks ago I found a male Sulcata wandering the street of Lancaster, CA. It was across the street from a large patch of desert so part of me wonders if he was dropped off there... But don't worry, I'm doing my best to reunite him with his owner if they are searching for him. He's about...
