I wanted to give a quick up date. Bowser is doing much better today. Yesterday afternoon, after his soak, he started to walk around. He was walking, just having difficulty with one leg. He could not quite get his foot under him so he was walking on the front part of his leg. This morning...
He has a burrow, but it is not deep in the ground. Bowser has never been much of a digger. I have let him transition himself to his night time hut.
This morning he is not walking much at all has he has some white mucus around his nostrils. They are not obstructed and no blowing bubbles...
His diet is mainly grass from the back yard. I feed him Matzuri on occasion, but not very often.
I do soak him, but he only stays in there about 10 minutes. He is big enough to climb out himself now and I struggle with keeping him in.
I am sure he is a Male because he used to drag his male parts around. He did poo in his soak today. I soak him 2-3 times a week for as long as he will stay in his pool.
He is approximately 35-40 lbs. He lives out doors. His enclosure is mostly grass, has an underground burrow for the summer and a heated hut in the winter. He has free range of our back yard. I am not sure how big it is, but it is a decent size. The pictures are from last week.
Hello tortoise family,
I have not posted on this forum for a while. I have had Bowser (Sulcata) for 5 years now. He has been really heathy and I have had no issues, until today. When he came out of his hut, he was having extreme difficulty walking. It looks like he does not have enough...
Hello my tortoise family. Baby Bowser is now 2 years and 4 months old. Recently he has began to flash me his man hood every morning while out on his walk about (which just looks uncomfortable). He likes to let it drag behind him. Is this behavior that other tort parents see or Does Bowser...
Okay tort peeps!
This is my first winter where Bowser is outside on his heated hide. He seems to be sleeping more than normal. Is it normal for their activity level to decrease in the winter? He eats about every other day, maybe every third day. Still poos in his warm soaks. Looks the same...
Posting a 19 month update. 4 lbs already! I can't believe how fast Bowser grows. I have a question though. How do you teach the to go on his house in the winter. I put him in there and close it for the night. I then open it in the late morning, he walks out but won't go back in by himself...
Hello fellow tort lovers,
I am working on Bowsers new outdoor winter enclosure and I was trying to figure out how everyone heats their torts outdoor enclosures. Any recommendations?
I live in the desert in Arizona so I don't need anything super powerful, just enough to keep it warm at night...
I have not been logged on in a log time, but I thought I would give a 1 year update. Bowser is doing great! He is getting so big. I have started his outdoor enclose and he loves spending time in it. He is already too big for his indoor enclosure so I am working on that situation. I cant...
Thanks for your help on this. I insulated the side of the tank with the window, and hung the 2nd CHE which worked like a charm. His tank is now nice and toasty :-). The log is going to go away really soon as he is getting to big for it anyway, but I completely berried it under coco coir when I...
Here is Bowser's 7 month weight in, 302 grams. It is so fun to see his development and growth on this thread. This month he has definitely stretched his digging legs. He is digging little hides all over his enclosure.
I was looking at heat mats. I have some questions about them. The tank stand is basically a TV stand and it is plywood. If I put a heat mat between the tank and the stand would it cause a fire? There is not enough room between the bottom of the tank and the stand so the heat mat would make...
My enclosure has changed a bit since this picture, but the basics are the same. IT is completely enclosed with plexi glass, the CHE is 150 W that I just bought for the winter, (my summer CHE is 60W) and the basking is 60W. I don't want to get higher wattage because outside the hide it is...
