So I have three leopard tortoises that are around 6 or 7 months old which I believe are starting to show signs of a upper respiratory tract infection. I have booked a vet appointment for a week from now (earliest available appointment) but would like to know what to do until then. All three...
If that is solely for light (and not for uvb) it will be ok for sure. I find that the lower % uvb bulbs have a much brighter visible light so you should be able to see your tortoise just fine with that. Might want to get 2 seeing how large your cage is?
Luggage compartment with other pets. This was 8 years ago and there was only 1 airline which allowed you to take pets transatlantic from germany to canada and they had to stay in the compartment
I see a lot of open space. Try putting in some larger rocks, pieces of wood, cork rounds, etc to break the sight barriers and give the turtle something more exciting to explore. You can also create some slopes and valleys by piling the substrate on top of some extra hides to make the enclosure...
I've always taken my russian in over night, even when the temps where good for night, just because we have many raccoons in the area, she seems to be fine
I don't know, my russian and EBT both flip regularly and they just flip right back over by hooking their legs under available objects. I never worried about the whole flipping thing too much personally. I know it slowly compresses their lungs, but mine have seemed to be able to flip back with...
I live in Canada and my city is really bad with their tap water (you can taste the chlorine, it's like pool water) so i always use dechlor, no clue what it is like in Scottland though
definitely not hating, just trying to help. For travelling I have used a small animal transport box (one of those you can buy at the pet store). My tortoise spend less than 1 day in there though, but travelled from germnay to Canada. It got pretty cold on the plane so I also kept it dry
Depends how long it is too cold/hot where your tortoise is. If you want to keep her awake and active, put in some che for night time so that your temps don't drop.
If you read my previous comment, I also would not put a tortoise in that plastic cage. I just stated in my second comment that maybe for two days you do not need to spend 50$ for a set up when you got moving boxes lying around (if moving is the case). I never said you weren't being friendly, and...
If you guys read the original thread, it's only for two days (I'm assuming that is what "twk days" is supposed to mean). The rubbermaid totes are great, but a bit over kill for two days don't you think? As long as you have some sort of box with some sort of substrate that isn't dangerous with...
Seems like their numbers are dwindling (or they are just all hidden under some rotting wood somewhere). Anyways, I still see a couple but not nearly as much as in my picture. Springtails are also doing good
Are you jsut starting off with tortoise keeping? If that is the case maybe consider not trying to breed right away but rather learn everything there is to keeping your species before. Mating puts a lot of stress on the female (essentially the male keeps biting her until she lets him mount...
