We use a 60/40 ratio of top soil and play sand, as well as some cedar bedding. It gets moistened with a spray bottle daily, and I mix water in it once or twice a week for humidity purposes. Raspy gets a soak 2-3 times a week.
Good luck! I can remember when I moved to college for the first time, I was so nervous and excited! It was the best time of my life. I recommend getting as much involved as you possibly can, but try not to exhaust yourself. I hope the roommates fall in love with your Tort--though, I can't...
Okay, I know peeling is a pretty normal thing, especially when Torts are stressed. I haven't been thinking too much of Raspy and his peeling problem, but in the last week (our move back up to Maine from NJ) I've noticed he's peeling much worse. He even has developed a small dark brown spot on...
I had the same problem! I purchased Rasputin about 3 weeks ago now, and he didn't eat for 4 days. I thought he was sick, so we got him checked out. I thought it was stress (and I'm sure that was a big part of it), but then I realized I had to fix the temp/humidity in his enclosure. Once that...
For you Jacqui:
I know it's not as good as seeing a moose in the flesh, but have faith--it'll happen!
The other attached picture is of a Candian Lynx, which Jeremy and I came across one afternoon on the way home. By far the coolest wildlife I've encountered!
And, since this is a...
LOL That's how I feel about Jeremy. I was born and raised in Vermont, which is where my family resides still. I've never seen a Moose in Vermont, in fact the first moose I saw was 6 months after I moved to Maine. He saw one last Christmastime, and I've been jealous ever since. I mean...
Maine is a very pretty area! It's not my ideal place to live though since it gets fairly cold and the year I moved they got a record 200 inches of snow! I also don't like the moose around the springtime. I had never seen one until I moved there and then all of a sudden I couldn't go anywhere...
I'm still new to the whole "owning a tortoise" thing, but I have to say my russian is the best pet I've ever had. Within three days Rasputin began showing me his personality. He's a very curious little guy, and he likes to get into trouble. He's very interested in my fiancee's family dog...
I give my russian, Rasputin, a 10-15 minute soak once or twice a week. He'll go into his water dish on his own, but he likes to have more room to spread his legs out. He loves to dig and he gets quite dirty himself.
