    Hermann Newbie Questions

it's better to get as much info as you can and be well prepared rather than bringing home a new tortoise friend without getting enough knowledge first. check out the care sheets like @johnandjade said, they have plenty of info :) Hermann's are little bundles of personality. You won't regret it!

    Funny tort video

Summer, my little Hermann's does this and it's very cute. It's only happened once but it was quite funny. Ollie my adult RT on the other hand doesn't care about food that much.

Building an Enclosure for a Baby Redfoot

I've read somewhere that it's best if the tortoise cannot see the outside through any clear material because they will try to go through it and it will stress them out. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

    PTFE/PFOA in lamp/bulb?

Hello everyone, I have an important question. It's bird-related but involves the lighting I use for my tortoises. I recently brought a new parrot home and am very concerned. Birds are extremely sensitive to PTFE and PFOA (shortened versions of the compounds used in Teflon) and I read that some...

plenty of those! I take the seeds and sprinkle them over the (to be) outdoor enclosure so they can grow and take over that spot.

    Torts and their dandelion heaven

we keep food in her enclosure also because she eats all the time. usually several types of leaves from the weeds in the garden. She is an absolute eating machine, it's crazy! It's mostly my RT that we feed at certain times of day. but thank you for the advice, this is my first baby.

    Torts and their dandelion heaven

Went outside today and I'm positive there were at least 30 dandelions blooming. First thing I thought.... tortoise food!!! Ollie and baby Summer are chomping away. Ollie decided to go sleep behind the couch, so I'll have to go grab him after Summer is done in dandelion heaven. We feed the torts...

    reddish area on neck

Hello everyone, I checked on my RT today and noticed a reddish area on his neck (not pink) and I became worried. I soaked him just in case and it looks sort of like a burn, but his basking spot doesn't go higher than 90 degrees. Here are some photos, I'm really worried. I've had him almost a...

    new hatchling!

hello everyone! I already have a RT that I've had for almost 7 months now, but we are happy to introduce our newest member of the family! she is a 2.5 month-old eastern hermann's tortoise from gbtortoises. (he incubates at higher temps so there is a 4:1 chance it's a girl, I think.) look at her...
