This is my first winter with tortoises/turtles. The two I purchased earlier in the year do not "hybernate," but I acquired a 3-toed boxie from a friend that didn't want her anymore. She has stopped eating, but she seems to be awake part of the day and moves around the enclosure, changing her...
I hope this is a good place to throw a question in. I have been caring for a friend's DT for about four or five months now. It was almost two years old and they were given the little tortoise with no instructions on how to care for it. When they asked if I could "take a look at him," I noticed...
Just got back from the American Tarantula Society's 12th annual conference in Oro Valley, AZ. Thought I'd post some pictures of my eight legged friends here...

The wife and I were feeding our tarantulas tonight, who happen to be housed in the same room as our torts. Of course, whenever I'm in the room and NOT paying them attention, they come out to pose. Daisy was pacing around, watching us closely.
With nothing to do on Saturday, I created a little website for my torts/turtle. Just a little place to post some information, but mostly photos and videos.

Just some random pictures while I was in the tortoise room the other day.
This is the newest addition, Goldie, peeking out from under her log to check out her dog food salad...
...while little Tony Hawk was foraging and finishing the last of his breakfast...
...and of course...
A gal from our church came into the antique shop my wife was working at today and after some chit chat, she asked my wife if she wanted a cat. "Ah, no" was her answer. Then she asked, "How about a turtle?" My wife picked up the phone to call me, asking me out of mere formality if I wanted it...

I verifed that the Phoenix Herp. Society has him. That's where I got my Daisy from. I just hope they can get him back to the owners.
With my sulcata and Russian girls, I have been told not to keep them together - which I don't. Is the rule of keeping tortoises together based on species or can two tortoises of the same genus but different species be housed together? Russian and Hermann's for instance?
Just a question that...
The stray dog we had been keeping in the backyard has finally found a good home. That means, the torts can have the backyard again. So after some clean up, I made an enclosure for Daisy. (Pictures taken before Cypress mulch and chicken wire over top were added.) Petunia is big enough to get the...
It's getting pretty warm here in AZ, so we took advantage of a sale on seedless watermelon the other day. Of course, we had to share with the torts. Petunia ate privately, bringing her piece into her hide, but here's Daisy with a little piece on her chin...
Daisy isn't even waiting for me to turn the lights on anymore. She knows it's time to eat! And since I can't resist picker her up and saying hello to that cute face, I decided to take her out and hand her over to Carla while I made the tortoises' breakfast. Seems like Daisy enjoyed story time...
I mentioned once, as a side note, how fun it would be to have a get together for the TF members. As a member of the American Tarantula Society, we are coming up on our 12th annual convention. Let me give you an idea of how we could do something like this...
We would rotate the location of the...
We had a beautiful day here in Florence, AZ. Warm sun and cool breeze, so we decided to take the girls out for some exercise. They had a blast!
And a video...
I am blessed to work in an office where everyone loves animals - and the boss is a tortoise owner!! So tomorrow, Daisy (my little Russian) will be accompanying me to work for the day! She has a temporary home complete with hide ready to do. Room for food and water. She will be getting plenty of...
I am the uber-proud owner of a sulcata and a Russian tort. Did my research and, of course, did a lot of asking questions here. Just prior to getting our first tortoise, we had friends post on FACEBOOK that they were moving from AZ and wanted to know if someone wanted their Desert Tortoise. We...
