We are moving into a new house this month and the back yard doesn't have any grass. There is a front lawn, but it is communal and I am certain it is sprayed with fertilizer. There is a nice patch of dirt that has room for a lot of different plants, and I only want to plant there things that my...
My wife and I have a sulcata tortoise and we were thinking about getting another one. I know a lot of tortoises do not get along and will have to be separated, but are there any that will peacefully co-exist with my 16-18 month old sulcata?

I recently purchased this exact bulb at a reptile convention and I am curious if any one else has used it and what their thoughts are about it? For me it is doing a great job achieving my desired temperatures and providing a spot...
I have found this great new place that I take Ozwald to for grazing. He goes nuts and eats everything he can see and walks endlessly through the weeds. Under close supervision, of course :)
I am familiar with the fact that a hot dry environment will contribute to pyramiding, but my question is does my tortoise's entire terrarium need to be at 80% humidity? I am having a hard time getting the whole tank there, but where he sleeps during the nighttime temperature is about 85 degrees...
Recently moved Ozzy into a new tank which measures 6'x2'. The thing is huge!!! He loves it so far. For substrate I have Coco Coir as a base and then cypress mulch and orchid bark on top of it. Since I just got it ready, it is still heating up (its at about 77 degrees Fahrenheit) but I have the...
It's about that time, I redesigned Ozzys outside area today. Growing in the pots are romaine and prickly pear. I have an area with orchid bark and fescue grass and a water dish. His hide right now is a cardboard box. But yea, he seems pretty stoked that he has a lot of space to move around. Let...
I was browsing the craigslist free section because lets face it, sometimes there are some cool things, and I found this ad for a Russian Tortoise.

Its not my ad, but if you would want it I could perhaps possibly retrieve said tortoise and...
I read it is high in oxalic acid. What are the negative effects of this, and how often is it okay to feed a baby tortoise?
Also, is there a difference in the flower and leaves of the dandelion? My tort gets both, but mostly the leaves. The flower part is a treat.
My Sulcata, Walter, is about 10 months old and recently has been noticeably lazier and has a strange white build up in his eyes. Attached is a photo showing the white stuff around and in his eyes. Here are some facts about him:
He lives in a 30 gallon terrarium
I use a 100 w UVA/UVB lamp for...
I was wondering how you fellow sulcata owners keep their hatchlings and yearlings warm at night. I am keeping my sully's basking lamp on at night to keep an ambient temperature of about 80-85 degrees. Is it ok for him to not have a "night" time with lights off? I figured if he is bothered by his...
I am using a zoo med reptile humidifier to keep the humidity at around 80%, but it is starting to flood the terrarium. There is a puddle of water under his hide and elsewhere. Is this normal? What do you guys use for humidity inside, and has anyone else experienced this?
Another question I...
I had a quick fertilizer question because our lawn is fertilized with Scott's organic fertilizer and although I haven't taken my tortoise out to the grass, if he got into it would it make him sick? I guess I am wondering if since its organic is it ok for him? Or should it be totally avoided?
I have read a lot of posts about pyramiding and possible causes of this, but I still dont quite understand what it means. Is it when their shells grow in a way where it is bumpy rather than smooth?
