I am looking to find my Sulcata a new home. Not sure of gender. I got the tortoise at a pet store in May 2012 and they told me the Tort was a hatchling. I don't think it was exactly a hatchling though. The tortoise has slight pyramiding, nothing horrible though. I live in the Cincinnati, OH...
We are out of town and staying with family. She said her lawn was sprayed with fertilizer a week and a half ago. It has rained a lot since then. Is it ok to put the tort out in the lawn for a bit? It is so pretty outside I hate for him to not be able to go out.
I have a 38 gallon tank that I am hoping we can use if we decide to get them. My questions are: what kind of bedding is best? What is better a group or a pair? Boys or girls? We DO NOT want to mix genders! When my tort was a baby I had it in the tank I am planning on using. I dumped the...
I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about my closed chamber molding. I was going to clean it but it's really bad so I am going to just replace that wall. It is only the "cooler" side of the enclosure that molded. I was wondering if I painted the inside, would that prevent the mold from...
My baby is from a pet store and was very dry when I got it. For about the first seven months of having it, I kept it dry (until I found TF). I have since been following the hot and humid rule. I noticed prominent growth rings. Since they are so prominent, does that mean the shell is still...
When I built my closed chamber Home Depot ran out of the size ply wood that I needed. I have one side as a different type of wood. That is the only side that has molded. Does anyone have an easy fix for this. It is cold and snowy here so I don't really want to take it outside and redo it right...
I am wanting to get a baby Leopard early part of next year. Any suggestions on where I should get one? Anybody on here expecting babies? Also, is their setup pretty comparable to a Sulcatas?
We're going out of town soon. We will only be gone Friday, Saturday and return on Sunday. My Sulcata has live Aloe and Spider plants in the enclosure that it can eat. I don't know if I should take it or leave it home. I will leave the CHE plugged in but I would not leave the light bulb or the...
I went into the local pet store tonight and they have a baby Sulcata. It still had the egg tooth. How young would this make it? Anyway, it's substrate was timothy hay. It had no water. It made me so sad. The guy let me hold it. When I held it, it poked it's little head out and looked at me. I...
The only thing I've changed is the humidity. I've been spraying the enclosure every morning but the other day I got my ReptiFogger back up and running. It has been down for a few months. Do you think the constant 80% humidity is making the tortoise "mad"? I know humidity is a have to have but...
My main concern is heat. We will be in the car for about five hours. I was thinking about getting a plastic clothing bin to make his travel home. I have an aquarium screen top that I can sit on it for the lights to sit on. Is five hours too long for a Sulcata to go without added heat? Any other...
My Sulcata is around 20/21 months old. It does have slight pyramiding because it was started dry. I have had ~80% humidity for about ten months now. At this age does it still need this much humidity? I'm getting ready to go out and don't know if I should pick up another Repti Fogger.
So... I'm a little bit of a worry wart freak but today I was doing a water change in my aquarium and while cleaning it out the water splashed in my face. I was online earlier and saw that the brain eating amoeba can live in fish tanks. NOW I"M FREAKING OUT!!! I know it can only be bad if it...
I'm sure this is a common question but I could not find the answer so I figured I'd just ask. I ordered some cactus pads and Mazuri. They should be arriving tomorrow. How often do you feed and how much? I have a Sulcata. ~18mo. old.
Today while I was gone the warm side of the closed chamber got up to 95F. I think this is too high? I guess if the Sulcata got too hot he/she would move to the cooler side. It was sleeping on the warm side. Yes, it is alive. Is there anything I need to be worried about? Age is about 20 months.
