Hello, I was curious about allowing my tortoise to roam about my room/house. Supervised of course. But is this preferable for them? Is it annoying or would it cause anxiety of some sort? I was curious because I haven't seen any threads about the merits/dangers of allowing a tort to roam about...
Yeah, I don't know why it's not showing. My phone gives me these troubles from time to time. If there is a moderator out there somewhere, feel free to delete this.
I'm hoping there are some plant wizards out there that can help me identify these.
They are growing amongst the normal grass in the yard. No one planted them. But they are there, so I am curious. Can my Russian have some of these?
I started off calling my new Russian baby HS, after Han Solo. But I figured, that doesn't make sense for a Russian. So I now call him Viggo. After Viggo Mortensen.
I love Viggo Mortensen.
It is a He. But he is concerning me with this. Because he keeps tipping all the water in the saucer so it spills into the substrate underneath it, and then he burrows into the wet substrate.
Can this be bad for him? I've read that the little ones can get respiratory infections rather easily...
The other day I came upon a scene of pure chaos...
After a long and thorough search, I uncovered the truth.
I don't know why this posted twice... I am embarrassed.

Somebody likely posted this already, but oh well.
Tortoise maniac - getting filled with prickly pear spines just to give your tort a lovely bit of fruit.
Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! I used to know near nothing about tortoises. But ever since I joined here and learned about all of the deficiencies they are susceptible to, I worry that he might start growing a second tail if its too humid or something. /:
I know what you mean, i felt that bond too. And I thought it was a big deal when my new baby Russian started eating out of my hand.
But then a lot of people saw his picture and said he's just a fatty who wants some greens. Kind of disappointing..
The moment I put him in his enclosure, he waddled over to the 9 or 10 different collard buds sticking out of the ground and gobbled them up, then tunneled into the substrate. I guess he is a fatty.
I got my new baby Russian tort today. I tip my hat to EweezyfoSheezy for a very simple transaction. He is two months old, and quite adorable. He is also my first tortoise, and though I have been doing quite a bit of research about Russians, I imagine it won't be a day before I have a panic...
Yeah I'll get the glass to just cover have of it. But is that really going to do very much? I'm a bit worried, because now that he's in there, I have the basking light on and it brought the humidity down to 20%.
Would it be okay to have the basking light off? Because the hot side of the tank...
I'm getting a two month old Russian tomorrow. And my substrate does the same, dries out for a the first few millimeters and the subsurface is quite moist. I've been taking the squirt bottle to it all day; however I have been mixing the top with the subsurface, so maybe I should just leave the...
