Haven't posted in here in a while, even though I check the forum often!
I have had my Cherry Head, Morla, for almost 10 months now and she has grown a ton! All of her new growth is perfectly smooth which makes me so happy. Means I'm doing SOMEthing right!
She is still quite shy but not as quick...
My girl floats too in the bath tub :) I fill it up to halfway up her shell on the shallow end of the tub but she always wanders to the deep end near the drain to paddle around. It's amusing!
Definitely closed! With an open enclosure you're going to have issues with low humidity and your Tort will most likely end up dehydrated and pyramided. :(
Haven't read all replies but yes, horrible pet sitters *shudders*
I've had pet sitters who I came home to 2 of my reptiles not even having their water dishes in their enclosures, hides/decor in the wrong tanks or left out completely, humid hides for my Leos completely bone dry, dirty enclosures...
Nope it won't hurt them! I will grab my girl and place her in front of her food in the morning if she has buried herself because I know if she buries herself she most likely won't be coming up anytime soon, ha. (I have a cherry head) :)
She has lots of hides and her UV light is only on one end of her enclosure so it's not super bright everywhere. Also as I said in my previous post I use tube bulbs, not the compact fluorescent ones. :)
I don't have a hygrometer, no, I haven't been able to find a good one around here :\
But I have a ton of sphagnum moss that I soak each morning in her enclosure and at the end of the day if I lift up the cover to her enclosure I can feel the wet, warm air come out. (yes it's a closed chamber)...
This might be a strange request but can I see photos of your guy's Red Foot's eyes?
I feel like my girl's eyes are always partly closed compared to when I got her. Do tortoises have a clear eyelid like cats that can swell? I feel like the corner of her eye (tear duct?) is always swollen. :\...
Here are a couple of links that I thought would be useful!
http://tortoise.org/archives/carbdent.html
and one from the forum http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/differences-between-red-foot-and-yellow-foots.14270/
I've just seen a lot of people keep colonies of Reds and Yellows together (as adults) which is why I'm wondering how successful that is? I would only have them live together if they were both female and not able to mate.
I think I may hold off on getting another tortoise for a while though, as I...
I have 2 cats, 1 bearded dragon, 2 kenyan sand boas, 1 leopard gecko, 1 corn snake, 1 crested gecko, 1 rosy boa, and 1 african fat-tailed gecko.... and I'm not going to try to find photos of them all right now, lol.
I don't see any issues! Are you sure your little one isn't a Yellow Foot though? Doesn't look like a Red Foot to me! Gorgeous little one either way ^_^
Hi guys!
So I have been seriously considering getting a Yellow Foot Tortoise and I think they are just gorgeous and under appreciated (especially in Canada where you NEVER see them).
Anyways, my question is, is would I be able to cohabitate my Cherry Head and Yellow Foot? This would be after...
