Hi Everyone! My Tortoise Mr. Tibbs is almost 4 years old. He's pretty big (and heavy!) now. I recently built an outdoor enclosure and he seemed to be happy there. Recently with the weather change he was trying to burrow and now he sleeps a lot. Usually he's waiting for me to come home so he can...
Hermann's about 4". I'm in Southern California. We have racoons, opossums, cats, hawks, etc. The hardwire cloth looks much sturdier. I'll look into the block idea!
My Tortoise is now 4! I want to build an outdoor enclosure. I've picked a great spot in the backyard that has sun for most of the day. My concern now is the materials that I can use to build the enclosure. I am thinking of a 'log' type enclosure but I am not sure if it's OK to use treated wood...
Update: Mr. Tibbs is doing fine now. He's eating, drinking water. He also passed urates, but I haven't seen him poop yet. I changed the bulb and changed the substrate..
Well, I think he's getting worse. He's down to 108g from 110. He loves mazuri, but now he takes one bite and he is done. Sleeps a lot. Do you think the MVB bulb is getting old? I also tried to soak him in warm water so he would urinate, which didn't seem to work. Last year, he slowed down, but...
Mr Tibbs is on a 14 hr cycle. I think you are on to something with the darkness. I put another bulb in the enclosure to brighten it up. Thanks for the good idea.
Mr Tibbs is eating less everyday. I weighed him in at 110g and he's about 1.7 years old now. I adjusted the temps and took some stuff out of his cage to give him more room. Any suggestions on getting him to eat? He was a pig earlier this summer.

It's about 80 in the hide house and I mist the substrate (cypress shavings) Me and my gf plan on building a larger enclosure as soon as we have more space in the garage. I had him outside in the Tortoise House but it's gotten cold so I brought him in.
I do. I used to live in an apartment, it's a Tortoise House by ZooMed. I put him back in the garage with his 100w MVB bulb. His basking area is about 87F-90F. If I get home early enough, and on weekends I take him in the backyard and let him roam. I also notice that his poops are enormous...
The weather is finally cooling off here in Southern California, nighttime temps are in the 50s so I put Mr. Tibbs in the garage with his basking lamp. He is sleeping a lot now and doesn't want to eat much either (although he IS eating somewhat..) I make sure to keep him hydrated with his water...
It's a Hermanns. He seems ok but I just want to make sure i'm doing the best for him, on weekends I take him out of the enclosure and let him roam the back yard!
I got a job in sunny San Diego now. I am renting a room, and my tortoise lives outside now in a tortoise house. He is still small, 1.5 years old. I had to move the enclosure several times because I think the locations were too hot, in direct sun with no heat gradient. I'm worried though that his...
How big should Mr. Tibbs be, he is approaching his 1 year.. he is just over 2 inches now. I have started feeding him 1 pellet of Mazuri every week to supplement his daily greens.
Now he spends all day trying to escape. Usually this means something is wrong with the enclosure. Temps are good, has enough substrate to burrow, has food, has a hide house and water. Part of me thinks it's the "Wild Caught" inside him, trying to get outside.
