This is my g. pulchra (brazilian black tarantula), Spinner. I figured the only way I was going to overcome my fear, was to suck it up and get one. I found this gorgeous girl on CL for $30. This species is a great beginner T. They're very docile.
Okay, I pulled him out, let him soak in some luke warm water for about 10 minutes, gave him some food and left him alone. Hopefully he'll eat a little something.
My little hermanns arrived today. I had his/her new enclosure all set up and made sure the temp was right. I had to run out and run some errands and when I got home, I checked on him. He's in the log hide but he burrowed. I'm assuming this is normal and I don't want to disturb him b/c everything...
I got the little guy from Bill Curtis. He's been very helpful through the whole process. I got a large black concrete mixing tub, cypress mulch, a powersun 100watt MVB bulb a log hide, shallow water dish and food dish. I also got some Mazuri tortoise diet. I already have some calcium supplements...
I'm going to be keeping my little guy in a black concrete mixing tub, so is 100w MVB bulb good? Once it starts to warm up, I'm going to take him outside, and hopefully have a pen for him out there.
Okay, maybe I'll half the pen area and as he grows, I'll open it up. I may just do the rubbermaid thing for now, just so he's safe and I can keep an eye on him and make sure he's eating and all. I will take him outside though as much as possible. I'm a stay at home mom so I can go outside while...
The Hermann's I'm possibly getting is a baby and the outdoor pen area I have is big. Is that okay? I know with some critters, they get stressed out in large environments, and I'm new to the tortoise world, lol.
I have a good spot, right by our house that gets full sun all day. I would just have to clean it up a bit and put down some nice substrate. What should I use for a hide?
Hi Yvonne, you can call me Jess. :) I live in Pennsylvania, more towards Philadelphia.
I was checking out the enclosure section, there are a lot of different looking outdoor enclosures.
Hello,
I'm possibly getting a hermanns tort. We rent our house so we don't plan on being here forever, maybe another 2yrs or so. I'd like ideas or pics of outdoor pens that are inexpensive. I've got a huge yard, it's not fenced in but it would be perfect for a tort pen. I'd also need to know...
