So I have three young tortoises and I am keeping my humidity high for them. I am mixing their bedding often but I am still noticing a slight white fungus growing in the bedding. How do I keep it from growing and ruining all the bedding? I am using 50/50 topsoil/coconut coir for their bedding. I...
I have modified my enclosure in the following ways thanks for all the help everyone!!!
I got rid of the compact florescent bulb and switched to a t5 tube style light.
I also added some basking rocks for them, which should help keep their nails in check as well.
I took out the wooden log and put...
Hey all just wondering how you do it.
Do you keep the uvb on all day or just a few hours?
I have heard and seen both ways here so was wondering which is most common.
I turn my uvb on for 3 hours a a day for my torts that is all they seem to need according to those wiser than me.
I think this...
I am wondering if this is usable for desert torts? I see some other people feed it to other types of tortoises. I am trying to add as much variety as I can to their diet and thought this looked interesting. I would not use this as the main meal but more of a topper for them. I currently have 3...
How far away do i want the uvb bulb, I am a bit confused on proper distance. I currently have my reptisun 10.0 bulb about 16 inches away from the animals. Is this too far away? I am very concerned about their eyes now, but cant get a linear setup for a little bit.
Thanks for the explanation , I really appreciate your knowledge and wisdom. Thanks for explaining why, most people just say this is best and don’t provide why it’s the best.
I am a little confused on the incandescent flood bulb. I cannot get those in Ca. You use them because you get them shipped to you by friends. Can I use any flood type bulb that I find at Home Depot type store? Thanks for the “A” I really try.
Also how do determine best size fixture for t5 build? Do I want to have it across the whole enclosure or part of it? For example say the enclosure is 2 feet long so I want an 18 in fixture or 24inch?
So there really are no better options to me for the basking light because I can get the best option shipped to me and all others are inferior, correct?
I will get a tube type uvb bulb and fixture ASAP.
I can’t believe that there is soooo much old outdated information about pyramiding out there...
It is the bent tube but not the coil type. If I can’t get the flood bulbs anymore is there another option? I could switch to a smaller wattage to lower temps or raise the 75w one I am currently using.
side note: it seems that everything can cause pyramiding in tortoises, is that just me or are...
I am using a 75w zoo med repti basking spot lamp
I am using a repti sun 10.0 uvb bulb.
Basking temp: 100-105
warm side: 80-95 dependant on proximity to basking lamp
coolside: 75-80
overnight no lower than 70
I am soaking daily and they have access to fresh water always.
