    Copper to prevent algae

I have a small hole in my yard that naturally collects water that my sulcata likes to soak in during the day. All of the water drains out overnight and I refill it in the morning but the soil never gets completely dry, so it grows quite a bit of algae. I’ve seen that putting a small copper pipe...

    Guinea Fowl with Tort

Hi, I live in central Oklahoma, and in the summer I typically just let my three-year-old sulcata roam the yard. I am considering getting a couple guineas to patrol for snakes, since I have a creek that runs behind my house. Do you guys think it would be safe for me to have them in the yard with...

    Building a new enclosure

I’m building a new indoor enclosure for my 2 year old sulcata. I typically use a paint tray for his water dish and was thinking about adding some plumbing underneath to drain the water and clean it without taking the tray out. It’s a pain to take it out every day and I always end up spilling...

    White mark on shell

I pulled my Sulcata out for his bath today and he had this white mark on his shell. Do you think he just scraped it on his hide or is it something else? I’m worried because it’s right on the crease I know he has a little bit of pyramiding, he was kept in a dry enclosure before I got him.

    Not as excited about food?

My sulcata is about 6 months old and for the past few days he hasn’t seemed very excited about food like he used to. Usually I soak him for about 30-45 minutes and put out fresh food for him while he’s soaking, and he immediately runs over to the food and eats most of it when I put him back in...

Do I need to add some more variety to his diet?

I’ve been feeding my 4 month old sulcata a mix of chickweed and the African grazers mix from tortoise supply and he eats it really well. Do I need to give him more variety? Everything is iced over right now, but I was thinking of growing some more edible plants inside for him.

Do I need to change the mulch?

I have cypress mulch in my baby sulcata’s enclosure that ranges from 80-95% humidity. I’m worried that with all of the moisture the mulch is going to mold. Do I need to change it out occasionally? If so how often?

    Is just leaf lettuce okay?

I’ve got a 3 month old sulcata at home that we got a few weeks ago. He seems great, he eats a lot and loves his morning baths, he burrows in the mulch, everything. The breeder I got him from told us to just feed him romaine/leaf lettuce for the first 5 months, but I wanted to double check. Is...
