Its isn't actually an enclosure because it is wide open in my living room with a window that is usually open so fresh air is not a problem. Do you still think I would have a problem with the real plants? What is the problem with the substrate? What should I change it to?

I guess you are talking about the plant inside the circles? That is the only plant that is fake, it is just for decoration.
