I was wondering if the scales on the head of a sulcata are unique to each tortoise? I have only one and was hoping someone with many torts could answer this. Kind of like a fingerprint? I know this is true of some of the water turtles markings. Thanking you in advance.

    Scales on sulcata tortoise head

I was wondering if the pattern of scales on the tortoise head is unique. I only have one tort so I wouldn't know. They are beautiful, complex, are they unique to each tort?

    Growing greens in Cinder Blocks.

Heat bulb keeps blowing! Any advice?

Because the lamp is vertically mounted the lamp can become loose. The heating up (expanding) and cooling down (shrinking) of the metal in the socket, combined with gravity can make this happen. A loose connection creates heat. You may have to periodically check that lamp is tight in socket...

Outdoor Enclosure/Night Box for 4 ft. Sulcata Tortoise

The only thing I would add is a packing blanket covered by a tarp. It gets kind of funky after awhile but by then it's warm enough outside, no need for it. Harbor freight carries these but any heavy blanket is ok. I would also double secure any kind of heater in the roof, if it came down your...

Outdoor Enclosure/Night Box for 4 ft. Sulcata Tortoise

My sulcata is about the same size. His house is a Rubbermaid garbage can shed made for 2-3 cans. I raised it up a bit, made a small entry ramp. In the winter I cover it with packing blankets and a tarp for extra insulation. He has a CHE clamped into ceiling, heat pad on floor. I removed one...

    A Question For An Electrician

The best way to know the answer is to check your amps on the circuit with everything turned on. You will need an ammeter and access to the inside of panel. If this isn't something you can do there is another way. Add up all the amps of all the equipment you are using. If labels are in watts...

If you would like to educate kids about tortoises, elementary schools love to see visiting animals. I have done this many times. Rule number one...no one handles or touches tortoise. I tell the kids that tortoise germs are not good for them and human germs are not good for tortoise. Make it a...

    Sulcata plastron starting to concave?

Ok, so this is a bit funny but somewhat helpful. I live in Florida where old dried coconuts are easy to get. I put one in my tort 's space one day thinking he would play with it a bit, maybe push it around or something, like with his bowling ball. He climbed onto it, started humping it like mad...
