I spend 10 minutes preparing the perfect balanced, varied tortoise diet in the world (topped off with calcium) and my tortoise walks over it and starts eating a dead leaf on the ground...

He won't be told when or what to eat, he's a strong independent tortoise!
tortoises can be grumpy little creatures sometimes!
Just its way to say I'm stil the boss.
...or, that moment when you spend a half hour preparing a beautiful presentation of a nice variety of different foods, place the feeder on the floor of the habitat and the tortoise walks through the food to get to your hand.
Darnit! Just eat your food! Weren't you ever told NOT to play with it?
Why do they do that??
or when they trample their food..... or when you gave them their favorite food the day before and they wont eat the other "not as tasty" food the next day!
Sometimes I swear they do these things just to check out our reaction.
I know, right? Sometimes they are realty frustrating....

So it's not just me that happens to!!!!
LOL Likes something one day and will not eat it the next. Or walks through the food first then turns around to nibble. Just gotta love them though.

We have different condition here. Our torts love the food my wife prepared for them.
Mine takes his time to drag his food all the way across his house to his water dish and leaves it in there... I've never caught him in the act, but i can only imagine how he does it!
