Welcome! Fred has an unique looking shell. Is Fred an only tortoise? Was he also hatched in OK?

I'm not sure where he was hatched, i bought him at the expo in Daytona, Fl. in 1999. I also have a hatchling Aldabra. I did have a female equal in size but she unfortunately passed away two years ago while we were out of town for the weekend in the middle of a very hot summer. I have also kept Pancakes, Indian Stars, and Redfoots, but sold them all before my son was born.

Nice looking boy.

How did you raise him when you first got him? What substrate? How often did you soak? Etc...

Actually when i first got him i didn't know as much as i do now and i pretty much just kept him on dry play sand with a water dish and fed him lots of romaine lettuce! He lived only inside for many years and grew pretty slow, which is probably the ONLY reason he didn't pyramid. After i learned a little more he was kept out side all summer grazing on grasses and weeds and really took off from there. Wish i had known more sooner but i was young and uneducated on proper tortoise care, but hes always been healthy which is the most important thing and has never had any problems at all. He's living it up now with a whole yard full of grass and weeds all to himself, and a nice sized winter home in the garage with lots of hay!

Thank you. He has the whole yard to himself, it's about 60ft X 75ft.
