How long after new pads grow before I can pick them for feeding? Does picking the new pads promote new growth?

Once growth finishes on the pad or later is the best time so it is a full pad. The bigger root system a plant has determines how much it grows under good growing conditions more than pruning does I believe. Also these plants take a rest from growing in the Fall and Winter unless in a warm greenhouse.

You can cut them anytime you like. I use younger smaller pads for smaller tortoises and save the bigger more fibrous older pads for my larger adult tortoises. I haven't noticed that cutting off pads has any effect on new growth.
