Got our new hatchling today. Gave it a 15 minute soak when it first arrived. Set it downing the enclosure on the food dish and he ate a bit. But now it seems the little guy wants to hide by digging himself in.. Is this normal?

Alright, I made this today. I followed the build from the sticky up top. Little guy comes on Thursday and I can't wait. I found some leaves around the yard and threw them in there too.
A few questions, how far away should can the UVB from them, or should I try to mount it another way so...

Would this enclosure be alright with cyprus mulch or is the substrate you are using a better method? Also, I saw you only have the UVB on for 5 hours a day, is this only for hatchlings? I thought I had read they needed to be on for 10-12 hours. I plan to build this same enclosure this coming...
My uvb source is a reptisun 10.0. It is 10in away from my guy and have read to use d3 with those. I also have a MVB bulb that i use for my bearded and give him the stuff without d3.
My tort as far as i know is about 8 months old. He wieghs in at 79g and i just put a sprinkle of the supplement...
This is what i have been using 5 days a week. Do i need something else? This has calcium and d3 in it. Or should i be using some other calcium supplement?

Might want to try a halogen bulb that you can pick up at any hardware store or local store. They give out great heat.. Also with halogen bulbs you only need a 35-45 watt bulb and that would do the trick.
