Free Sulcata to Good Home - Please Help!

Hey guys! I'm so happy to see so many people who can give Tortilla a good home. I measured him, by the way, and he seems to be about 7". Renee (lulu?): sounds like you would prefer that I see if I can make it work with Christina? I will contact her if you like but I was feeling really good...

Free Sulcata to Good Home - Please Help!

A couple of years back, I rescued tortilla from my sister and her kids. S/he was living in a tank and not being taken care of properly. Since that time, I have done my best to give Tortilla a better life; however, I know that Tortilla could be happier some place else where someone loves...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Hey there- So Tortilla seems to be doing better today - he ate and is basking. Yay! However, when I measure the temp under the Mercury Vapor Bulb, it is really hot. It can fluctuate from 95 in the early day to over 100 when it has been on all day. Does that mean the wattage is too high or...

Does anyone think it's ironic that the tortoise in the logo for this site has pyramiding?

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Thanks for all of this food for thought, folks. I have been a little stressed out as my goal was to rescue the guy and now I fear that I am actually making him sick. :( He came from an environment where he was 1) never outside, 2) not receiving any UVB from his indoor lighting, 3) eating...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Hey guys- Today I went out and purchased some lighting. I got the Mercury Vapor bulb for daytime and a black light for nighttime (since our house can get chilly at night). Right now it's 80 degrees under the black light and between 70 and 75 on the other side where the half log is. The...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Just measured him, katesgoey, and your eye is good. He is just a titch over 3.5". Here's what I did today. I purchased a plastic storage container that is a bit longer and shorter than the glass tank he came in. I set that up inside with 50/50 coir-sand mix and a hide. I will have to get...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

All very useful info, ladies. Thanks! He is not a baby but I don't know how old he is but I think between 1 and 2 years so a juvenile. I will measure him tonight and post back. I'm going to keep bringing him in at night until my boyfriend can raise that enclosure so we can put in a heater...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Hello- I have been to all of the sites you mention and many more! I have been researching nothing but suclata for days on end. Part of the problem is that I have done so much research and there is a lot of conflicting information out there, which is why I came here to discuss my exact...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

I appreciate that feedback but I have no room for him inside. Unless he goes back into the dinky little glass tank just for overnight (that's what I'm doing now until we can set up a heating solution). However, I have to imagine that if we can adequately warm up that little house part, then...

Outdoor Enclosure for Rescued Sulcata - Feedback please!

Hey ther folks- Some of you may remember that a few weeks I posted on another thread about rescuing a sulcata from my sister's house. Well, Tortilla is here and I need some advice on his outdoor enclosure, which is his only one as we live in SoCal. 1) Is my substrate OK? I purchased...

Rescuing a Sulcata - Advice Needed

Pea gravel is small pieces of gravel. My boyfriend believe it will help with drainage. There will also be a layer of landscaping cloth in between the pea gravel and the coir/sand mix so I think this should create a barrier (so the tort won't eat the gravel).

Rescuing a Sulcata - Advice Needed

We are going to set-up the kiddie pool tomorrow! Thanks for all of your advice so far, folks! There is a drain built-in to the kiddie pool, which we will leave open. My boyfriend would like to line the bottom of the kiddie pool with pea gravel to help encourage the drainage. Will it be...
