    Differences among forms

I had not except the galleries, thank you Yvonne! So looks like the Greeks are a taxonomic mess! That makes things interesting. I will have to be very careful to try to make sure what I am actually looking at. Anybody with experience with a specific variety that you would recommend?

    Differences among forms

Hi, I wanted to see if there were notable differences among the various Greek tortoise besides colors and patterns? They sound fun, and I do like some colors/patterns more than others... but if there are significant differences beyond those I would like to know. I did read somewhere of one...

Tortoises in captivity - The whole 9 yards

Good post. However, I do have a few nitpicks with this particular part. People do overestimate what is truly "wild" in some cases. This is because essentially all habitats have been changed to some degree in every part of the world. Some are very obvious, but sometimes the less obvious ones...

    Bigred - at it again

I actually had my little leopard flip itself doing something similar! I felt sorry for the little guy but also figured it serves him right for being greedy.

    Mice as a protein source?

When I say white, what I should say is more gray than the usual brown/green. Both of mine are small (5-6" and 3-4" respectively). That being said the larger would eat a pinky whole if I let it, but it will eat almost all of a hopper mouse. The little one as mentioned doesn't show much interest...

    Mice as a protein source?

So having done a little poking around with the search function I have seen this topic has come up before and is relatively controversial. Controversial might not be the right word but it seems to make people... squeamish. So I have 3 snakes. I am in a situation at the moment where I have to...

    Earth worms for indoor enclosure?

I use worms in every tank I own, with the exception of one I have just set up. Yes, redfoots will eat them if given the chance but that doesn't happen very often. I think it does help with processing of waste to have the worms in there. They also do help aerate the soil. I generally add quite a...

    Savannah Monitor

I would submit ackie monitors to the mix. Similar sizing to the beardies, monitor personality. The initial price is higher, but the feeding cost are nothing compared to a larger cheaper monitor. No need to make a salad either, just bugs.

    NEW TRUCK PURCHASE

I drive a Toyota Tacoma and it has been a great truck. The only brand I would stay away from are the dodges. Of 4 Dodge trucks I have driven (not voluntarily) all but one had major issues, and 1 of those was brand new!

    Komodo Dragons

What I meant in that one is that humans are considered THE alpha predator. When a human walks into the woods it is almost certainly the most dangerous thing there. Think about the criteria I listed. Now tell me an extant critter we haven't killed that we are aware of. I didn't kill any humans...

    Komodo Dragons

They don't qualify :) Generally you're looking for critters whose only adult predators are their own kind (i.e. alligators are cannibalistic), another top level predator (crocs are known to kill tigers and vice versa), and humans.

    Komodo Dragons

Tom, I didn't mean to imply that a particular person couldn't do it. Just that for 99.9% of the population it would be a very bad idea. Just like the other animals I listed are. If you have the facilities, money, experience, and willingness to do it, best of luck to you and please post pics...

    Just a few newbie questions

Most reptiles can only really hear low tones and they can detect vibrations. A radio shouldn't be bad.

    Komodo Dragons

A privately held Komodo just seems like a bad idea to me. Alpha predator with a nasty bite. I'm talking just mechanical damage, I will leave the venom to the taxonomists and specialists. I did read that paper though and must admit it was pretty cool. Add in a tail whip and claws? No thanks. I...

    My lizards

If you like the monitor shape in a small package the ackie monitors are fantastic! I have a red and it's both beautiful and fascinating to watch. I'd like a group someday as they can apparently be very social. If I wanted a big lizard though a tegu would be my choice! They are supposed to be...
