They seem to be doing well. They are getting just a tad more adventurous. They are not very old, born in an outdoor enclosure last year. I have some frozen roaches, defrosted them and added calcium. I saw a little guy in the feeding dish this morning chomping down. :)

So if my guy has good access to grass year round, hay is not an issue? I wondered about that. He's 30lbs.

My little guys were up last night and this morning. I think they like the new enclosure. I'm really concerned about trying to get them to eat a diet with a good amt of calcium.

Dumb question....the wet eco earth and peat gets stuck all over their eyes and mouth. Big deal or no big deal??

I'm trying to keep up with the hydration. It has been so unnaturally dry. Right now I have them in a shallow, large sweater box on peat w sphagnum moss. I think it was another thread when someone said they come out in early morning and late afternoon. Sure enough, that's when they seem to be...

The boxie babies I have are very soft. They are about the circumference of a hair tie, if you can imagine that image. They eat well, but do not come to bask much. I supplement bugs with calcium and D3, they get natural sunshine for UVB. The plastron is mushy soft all over, easily compressible...

Ok, let's see if I can get these up. They don't seem to be from the same clutch. They may be just FL or FLxornate. Fl and ornate adults were together in an enclosure and hatchlings were found.

Sadly, we lost Roxie. our 9yo FL box turtle last week. It just so happens that our local wildlife rehabber had some Ornate and FL box turtles get together (oops). Since the babies are not releasable and can't be raised at the facility, I now have a trio of baby boxies. :) :) :) I'll have to...

Sadly, Roxie was euthanized at the vet today. He did radiographs and spent some time examining her. His best guess was that a virus had perhaps started some inclusion bodies. Her neck had become so swollen and firm throughout that her trachea was displaced downward. She had to extend her neck...

After speaking to others and looking around a bit, I'm hoping it is not the ranavirus that is causing deaths of wild box turtles.
