Hello,
I'm looking for a large female Russian for sale for a good home. I currently have a 6x9 enclosure with a 3x9 upper level with a ramp which I can separate. I currently have female and a male which spend some time together and some separated. They also spend some time outside as the...
I have an incubator set up with 2 Russian tortoise eggs. I currently have it set up with a lidless Tupperware in the incubator. I have vermiculite on the bottom of Tupperware and sphagnum moss wet then rung out so damp on the top of the eggs. My temp is 88.6 and my humidity ranges in the 70s...
One of mine has a much bigger mark than that but looks similar. I have a iron aquarium stand she In the room she is in. I didn't make the walls high enough in her enclosure to compensate for the cave for her hide. She got out and smashed it when getting underneath the the stand. At that...
You have a very useful link there. I think my goal is to feed them for free or close to nothing next year. Ironically it seems to be better for them also. My garden planting will change to support them more now.

I am currently designing a roughly 9ft by 5ft indoor inclosure. I will be making 2 one for redfoot and one for Russians. The Russians will be a set of 2 female 1 male. I know to plan for them not getting along and I will adjust as necessary. I'm going to build a big permanent hide in the...
Thanks the indoor temp of my tortoise room at lowest at night stays 70 and above year round. (Only room in the house I keep that warm). The water tanks I have for sliders in there also seem to keep the humidity from dropping too much which is also good.
What does everything think about hibernating the species that naturally would? Assuming you did it indoors or had no temp concerns outdoors...is it really necessary? Does it make one a bad Russian tortoise keeper to not want to hibernate? Also is there a difference in captive bred vs wild...
this is a reply to tom moreso than the rest. I didn't want to quote it all and clog up this further. I'll agree that zoos must promote conservation as a means to escape persecution/provide justification of self. Decades ago they thought we were heading to a new ice age in regards to global...
