    UV index for box turtles?

I have the 6.2, I was looking into the 6.5 as well, but I'm still new at using the 6.2 and understanding its readings so I am waiting a while on the 6.5. I also do a 'moving sun' effect on my male beardies enclosure since it has the length for it, I find it fascinating to watch him move from one...

    UV index for box turtles?

It's alright, I always like a conversation, I think it's the best way to bounce ideas off each other and learn new things. I should have clarified that statement, when I said mimic the environment I was referring to the UV exposure. So I would provide a daily amount of UV like the sun would, and...

    UV index for box turtles?

So I will just do my best to mimic his natural environment and go from there.

    UV index for box turtles?

I've seen how some people only do UVB a few times a week for a few hours, and some who use it about the same as the natural sun would provide. Is there the same unknown when it comes to the amount of UVB they need?

    UV index for box turtles?

I will leave the reflector on then. So is it not necessary to have the UVB near the heat source for synthesizing D3 during digestion like beardies? Or is the thinking more along the lines of how nocturnal reptiles can synthesize D3 without UV? I have never had turtles before, so all of this is...

    UV index for box turtles?

I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the enclosure section, but I was wondering about the UV index required for box turtles. I use a UVB meter to gauge the correct distance I need to raise or lower my UVB tubes, so what index do box turtles prefer their range? I would imagine it will be...

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

I've been debating between an MVB or a UVB and heat bulb. I think I'm leaning more towards the UVB and heat bulb over the MVB because of the ambient temperature in the room. It stays around 75 degrees in the room itself, and sometimes gets warmer than that, so it would be easier to turn off the...

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

I am going to make a 'humid hide' area for him like I do for my Leo's. I'm in the room itself 3-4 times a day taking care of all the reptiles, and spraying the Anole tank once a day is enough to keep its humidity at 75% in a partially-screened enclosure, so I am going to use my hygrometer and...

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

My cousin is a landscaper (owns his own business), so I have access to a lot of pond liners, but I'm going to wait until I get my own house before I shamelessly call in family favors. ;) I saw you're setup while browsing through the forum looking for information, it is beautiful!

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

I can get one for about $30. I love Rubbermaid totes, I use them for my Leo's and all my feeder insects, but they feel so narrow. It could just be my claustrophobia, but I feel like a few more inches in width makes a huge difference, lol.

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

I need something a little smaller length-wise for now until I get my 90 gallon tank moved, unfortunately I'm just not strong enough by myself even if I remove all of the contents. I'm still in the process of building my rack system for my Leo's and that will free up some floor space as well. I...

    Good starter indoor enclosure size?

I've determined that I will be keeping the baby box turtle I found outside, so the next step is to build him an enclosure. I spent a lot of time reading today and think that I am going to start out with a smaller enclosure and then increase it after he grows past the juvenile stage. I looked...

    Hello, first time turtle...

He's the smallest box turtle I've seen, usually I see the adults in the backyard in the summer. So is it really too late to set him free? I hate to think my helping him may have harmed him as well. I know you're supposed to leave nature to do it's own thing, but it was really hard for me to just...

    Hello, first time turtle...

So I will keep him through the winter then until spring. Knowing me, I may end up keeping him, but if not I know of a wildlife center I could take him too. He's a box turtle, his mother had buried the eggs in my neighbors yard and he had made his way to my yard. In Maryland you are allowed 1...
