Hi, I have a little 3 year old Hermann’s tort and we are unsure of what substrate we should be using. In the past we have used wood chips and have been told that it is a bad substrate because when wet it breeds bacteria by this website: http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/substrates.html...

We were recommended it, it is a mixture of soil and sand, we spray it with water every day and previously we have had wood chips which we were told to switch, is there something better to switch to to keep him safe? Thanks for the warning

Hi, I’ve had my Hermann’s tortoise, A’Tuin, since December. This is him sleeping under his heat lamp since it is quite chilly! He is adorable and a special part of our family ?

I give my Hermanns a bath every few days and he tends to run through his water every so often. I think sometimes where the substrate can stick in places you don’t want it to it’s still a good idea to bathe him

Hi, My tortoise’s top soil is clumping. I wasn’t sure if this is normal or if it is because of the water we are spraying? Do we need to declump it or is it ok?
