I used 1/2 inch river rocks as the base so when it rains the drain on the bottom of the pool does not clog up and the enclosure flood over. I used a mixture of top soil on the 2nd layer after the river rocks and top layer with cypress mulch. Amd also added 1/3 inch rocks near his water and food fish for different terrain feature.
