@ryan57 The back part of his carapace is depressed. Why is it? Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to other growing sulcatas but it has really catched my eye.

I've had my sulcata for a little over a year but just started to notice a small dent on the back left of its shell. I've been careful to make sure humidity is always high to prevent pyramiding and that it always has water. I also give it a varied diet with calcium supplement and Mazuri LS...

Apparently genetics comes into play and with the ones coming from Mali or the more Eastern part of the continent being more pronounced. Like you I did not really notice until about 5lbs. Seems more pronounced in males as well... My little one has the same thing going on. Smoother shell because he stays in a humid enclosure but Stump grew so fast that on a week by week basis I had been measuring the "pyramiding" between his primary scutes (the ones he was hatched with) and the valley between them. Last week he was at 3/8 of an inch which showed up in photos and this week it was 1/8" or less. This leads me to believe that it is not really pyramiding. It is probably more like spreading and then filling out.

He is doing fine and he eats almost everything I offer him. He hasn't shown me that he has a regular daily routine yet. Probably because he's only been in the new house and enclosure area since last fall. His weight is right at 35 pounds.

This is one that Tom bred and is awesome. Still has a depression in the same spot. Less pronounced.
