Hi all! I'm a long time reader, first time poster from Alaska. I've had terrapins in the past, but have just recently, in the past few months, been looking into becoming a tortoise owner. If there are any fellow Alaskans that I could connect with, as far as sourcing out local vets, reliable breeders, and other resources, please hit me up with a private message. The local Petco has some sad looking Russians, and as much as I'd love to rescue them, Russians aren't my first choice. I'm on the Kenai Peninsula, for those fellow Alaskans kind enough to reply.. thanks!

Ideally, I want a Leopard, though I know I'd have an easier time with a Russian..

No matter which I end up going with, they will pretty much have to be an indoors only tort, tho on the rare summer days it gets above 75, I'd love to take them out and soak up some real rays..

leopards are the 4th largest species of tort, they need a pretty large area to live. how warm is it during Alaska's winters and summers?

Definitely not warm enough for them to have an outdoor enclosure, unless I keep it heated..

tortoises travel miles everyday looking for food and protecting there territory. for an adult russian the smallest enclosure is 4ft by 8ft.

Yes, for an adult, I would have a bigger enclosure..

I just build a new one ( my second in my yard) couple days ago.
