Hi everyone. I had Shrek weighed and he is officially
37lbs. On the ride to the vet I noticed he is wheezing
a little. No bubbly snot and his appetite is great as well
as his energy. The vet is my dog vet and she was doing
me the favor of letting me use her scale. Should I be
worried? We leave on the 17th for FL. Also I noticed a
piece of dry hard skin hanging from one of his legs. Where
it came off from isn't roar or anything, is this normal?
I guess I'm just a very concerned new mom.

Was the piece of skin that was hanging, just normal shedding? They do shed in case you weren't aware. It's just they do it in pieces rather than a whole shed like a snake.

If you already know about shedding and don't think that is what you saw, then I'm not sure. I haven't experienced anything like a fallen off scale yet.

I'd be more concerned about the wheezing than the skin right now. Wheezing is a sign of respitory infection. He doesn't have to have bubbles coming out of his nose or mouth to be sick. I would bring him in for a vet visit especially since you'll be going away for a while. If it is a RI, your tort may start to eat less and be less active. What you really want to avoid is this turning into pneumonia. Now, this may be going ahead of things, but it doesn't take much for things to go from bad to worse. I have a tort that made wheezing sounds every once in a while. After months of that, i decided to take him in for another matter and mentioned the wheezing. Turned out he had a RI and was put on antibiotics. What a difference that made in his energy levels...levels I never knew he had. So, don't just wait and see like I did. Have him checked out.

Thank you both. I do think the skin is normal shedding.
When I said we leave for FL on the 17th I meant him too.
We are moving back. I will look for a reptile vet here on
Long Island and get him checked before the drive.
