It is that time of the year when Westwood Preschool studies the Continant of Africa. And every year, WalkingRock becomes the center of attraction because of his homeland. THIS year he was accompanied on his trip to school with Eros and Gaia.

He tried to hide in his bunker but he was quite surprized to find the roof and the door turned out to be the same thing!

He was NOT amused! (BTW, this concrete mixing tub was/is not strong enough to support a 95lb tort, nor is it tall enough to prevent escape in the back of my truck)

He got a chance to explore a little before the kids got into play...

...then they started coming....

and coming...

... and coming!

The children all got a chance to pet WalkingRock... which he really loves!

He was pretty happy to see the kids leave and thought he would make a clean break...

...but while walking around and minding his own.... the Older children cam out to see him... they just followed him around like a gaggle of goslings around a mother goose...

All and all, it was a good day and everyone had a good time!

he is a very good sport.... but then again he was raised his first 5 years in a Montessori classroom and I think he kinda misses the attention of children!

what a stud he is! Beautiful smooth growth as well, same with your leopards. Looks like he had an adventurous day :)

The real adventure came when I tried to take him from the back of the truck and the mixing tub broke.... I was able to catch him with my legs and control his fall to the ground. afterwards he looks at me like he was saying "What the F.... Dude!" :( He is fine and I am fine but it was a scarry 2 seconds! (I really need to make that harness!)

Fantastic pictures! What a wonderful treat for those kids.

This is a yearly trip for WalkingRock.... the kids are always amazed when they see how much bigger he is from last year.

He has been making the trip for 7 years now.

Good ole Walking Rock, what a sport!
Perhaps a lift on the back of your truck?

Wonderful pictures.

I think its great that you do this. So good for the kids. You might be inspiring the next Richard Fife or Bill Z.

As a teacher, I love to see this. The kids love tortoises. Hopefully the future of tortoise conservation is being influenced by the actions of people like you.

I dont do this often enough to need a lift. but keep an eye out for a lift harness I'm working on! (YES, it has been designed and even started...;) )
