Shell Problems

Hello! I just got a 5 year old red footed tortoise from a friend and noticed what looks like some shell problems. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is was and how to treat it!

It just looks like the new growth is extremely dry. You can help soften it by keeping the tortoise in a more humid environment, plus you can dab on some extra virgin olive oil, rub it in with a Q-tip then polish it off with an absorbent cloth.
