Please help is this normal (Red light question)

Hi a long time ago when I got my Russian and they sold me a red light for night time only but I don't see anyone else using it so I want to know is it required because I want the tortoise in my room but the light is to bright at night time here is a pictureImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1490216429.457865.jpg

Your Russian needs complete darkness at night which is great news for you :)

Coloured bulbs are not encouraged for supplementary heat because they colour tank decor and tortoises eat the decor thinking it's food.

If temperatures drop below 65F at night then a Ceramic Heat Emitter with a thermostat can be used. A CHE gives off heat but no light

I use red bulb for transition between nigh/day time. About 20-30 min of it before the UVB tube goes on. Only using it bcs I somehow ended up with it and i hate to waste things so trying to find use for things before throwing them in recycling bin
