Hi all. It's been a while but I have a question regarding lettuce. I know that things like iceberg and romaine aren't too good but I had heard that lettuces such as red and green leaf are okay in a mixed diet. I was wondering if someone could clarify the lettuce situation. Thanks a lot.

Green a d red are better for them. I would avoid as a staple.

Lettuce lacks fiber, nutrients and the desired calcium to phosphorous ratio. It is fine to feed some of it once in a awhile, (even iceberg... gasp...) but it should not be a regular part of the diet or fed in large amounts to the exclusion of other better stuff. I feed my tortoise leftover lettuces once in a awhile, but I mix it with grasses, weeds and leaves.
