I just receved my new budies about a week ago and was told it would be 1 male and 1 female but I'm having a hard tim figuering out which one is a guy and which 1 is a girl. The 1 with the shorter tail has an indented plastron and the 1 with a long tail is flat so I'm a little stumped. Your advise is greatly appreciated.

The first 3 are from what I suspect to be the mail.

i don't have much experience this these, but i tend to agree that the first 3 pics are male, and the last is female...

I would say the same only based on tail size though not from experience.
I was convinced one of my bells were female until he flashed me-very disappointing!

First is male, second is female. Look at how the anal scutes sweep back into the femorals on the male, and the female's anal scutes are almost straight across. Dead giveaway.

Give my article on Home's a read. Not to sound full of myself but it is some good stuff lol.

thanks for all the input guys. i guessed the same thing about the tortoises but i just wanted to check to make sure. its funny because the tortoise that looks like its the female has a deep indented plastron so it was a little confusing.

One of my males has a concave plastron, the other does not. I also have a very old female that has a concave plastron. Just not a very reliable "tell" with this species. The anal scutes/tail are the way to go.
