The standard of veterinary care and owners’ expectations have soared in tbe past 20 years so also the cost of running a practice. Most veterinarians make less money per hour than plumbers . Sorry - but many folks complaining about their vet bills are driving new cars and own the newest iPhones If you want a breakdown of what it takes to become a veterinarian and run a 24 hour facility I am happy to oblige you for a few hoursI agree with you except the vet care part. Vet care is very expensive where I live. Some states/cities much cheaper. I have had pet insurance before and its barely helpful.
A good friend of mine is a Vet and until she opened her own practice it was like hourly labor rates. Now she has two Vets working for her and is doing well. Now my Animal Eye Surgeon is another story, but then again he is a specialist (horses too) and does fantastic work. I have seen some awesome stitch work by some Vets I have known and have been amazed at their high skill level of stitch work compared to the average human Doc. Now my irritation a pet is a privilege not a right people confuse the two all the time. When I was young my fishing gear was hand me down and super auction finds. Now I am just slightly more picky, but love the old penn reels! The standard of veterinary care and owners’ expectations have soared in tbe past 20 years so also the cost of running a practice. That's okay. I know all about it. I used to work for one. I also know what I pay when I take an aninal in and what it actually cost to the vet. You can't tell me anything I don't know, nor can you fool me, sorry. The standard of veterinary care and owners’ expectations have soared in tbe past 20 years so also the cost of running a practice. Been on both sides.
There is no need to be rude , insulting or condescending. I have no reason to ever try to fool anyone. You may have worked for a veterinarian but I am one. For close to 40 years. The last 32 in emergency medicine and surgery. My ethics and professionalism have never been questioned. That's okay. I know all about it. I used to work for one. Oh, not saying they don't have overhead. Even location in the same city, like mine, Chicago, will dictate different prices. I'm just saying, it's not cheap and the markup is horrendous. I am very happy to have them and have paid over my fair share.I’m guessing this is probably a good discussion for a new, separate thread. That said - a lot comes down to overhead costs as well. Heat, lighting, rent, all the disposable supplies, cleaning, snow removal of parking lot, a receptionist, an assistant or two, all of the office supplies, light bulbs, etc. it all adds up in the overhead charges. A quick visit for anything has to take into account all of those “other” hidden costs.
Whoa, step it back. I didn't attack your ethics or professionalism. I know you are one it's obvious in your forum name. There is no need to be rude , insulting or condescending. I thought this forum was a friendly place to share experiences. I see I am incorrect
