After a long year and a half the pain has finally subsided enough to come back after losing my baby Sulcata to a dog I rescued. I learned such a great lesson that will be with me forever. Although I know I can't own a tortoise at this time I still love tortoises so much and want to enjoy them through the tortoise forum! One question though.... in a few years I am looking to moved from SoCal to Washington state if everything works out, do people own sulcatas or other outdoor tortoise up north and give them an insulated shed for the winter? is that something that works or is it not fair for the tortoise?

No, it works quite well. We have many members in the PNW who keep larger tortoises.

I live in Western Washington and have a young sulcata. He is still too young to be outside but this spring he will be allowed to go out for a few hours when the weather is good.
Once he is bigger there will be a greenhouse area and heated nightbox

Glad you came back. This is a great place to get your tortoise fix.
Any tortoise can be raised any place, any state. It all depends on what you can afford to do and if you have the room to do it.
