so i am due to hibernate my tortoise this winter, he is currently 13 month old, what i wanted to know is, how can you tell or keep any eye on your tortoise once they are hibernating to tell if they are still alive without disturbing them?

Safest way is in a refrigerator where you can monitor the temperature. Then a gentle touch of a foot once a week or so let's you know if the animal is still alive.
With the refrigerator, make sure it’s not a “frost free” refrigerator.
why so?
Frost free suck the moisture out of your tortoise. Set a piece of bread in overnight , it’ll come out stale from the water being removed.

Oh my I didn't know that. I was just asking everyone how to hibernate my snapper this year. Everybody said in the fridge. Glad I read your comment I wouldn't have had any idea..
