Ok I'm going away this weekend skiing. I'm going to be gone from Friday to Monday. How should I prepare for and leave my Russian. I live in Berkeley, CA, so he'll be inside...

No worries, just leave a little extra food than you normally would and make sure you've just filled his water and he'll be good to go for the weekend.

Lighting on timers and heat sources on thermostats work wonders.

Get a few cheap timers. They cost around $10 here in Texas, not sure about elsewhere. They are life savers! Just make sure you test them first and make sure everything coming on at once will not trip your breakers. Sometimes the surge of several lights and other stuff can do that.
