Do you have an opinion on the money of the future ? The thought of all money transactions being done online with a cost of maybe one percent scares the hell out of me. But I'm old and old fashioned, I still use cash for everything, when possible.Tomorrow I am getting new tires for my truck, just under $900, with cash. All of my children do very little with cash or checks everything is done with a card of some sort.

With cash, you know how much youre spending and how much you have left. I use cash less often then I use my card though.
Im also a check person. Online payments make me nervous. But buying stamps add up also. *thinks about the struggle*

I don't like the idea at all. Hope I'm dead before it ever gets to that. The digital world has gone too far already. Our kids are growing up in an isolated world as it is.

Credit cards don't scare me too much.
Anything that debits my bank account scares the hell out of me, though. I don't use any bank debit cards or my ATM card.
I've already been the victim of too much fraud.
I want to make my money hard to steal.

I always have enough cash on me to cover anything I'm buying in case the card doesn't work, but I use cards 99.99% of the time.

I only use cash in pubs and the fish&chip shop, the rest is debit cards.
I agree with Wellington, our kids are becoming isolated and the face to face socialising skill is disappearing.

Here in the UK it is widespread - shopping and banking online and touch payment using a card or phone.

We as a family couldn't manage without eBanking. It's convenient.

Touch payments are accepted in most stores for transactions of £30 or less. It's also in use on the London Transport system - you just touch a credit or debit card to go through the gates and it calculates the fares for you.

Our cards are Chip and PIN here - we only use a signature on the rare occasions the technology fails. I didn't think I would get into the touch payment side, I prefer to use a PIN, but I am using it more and more; it's handy!

Try paying bills by cheque in the UK and you pay extra on your bill. They call it a handling fee.

Bill payment by Direct Debit has no extra charge.
*gasps* i think I get charged a handling fee for paying online for certain things in MD. Its upsetting how they charge you extra for paying a bill. Like do you want me to pay this or not?!

I pay my bills electronically. I very seldom have cash in my purse, but if I ever do, it stays there for a very long time. I pay for everything with my credit card and I pay the card off monthly (electronically).

Their argument is that you have options to pay for it without a fee - by allowing direct debit. You get sent a bill, usually by email - there's a charge for paper bills too, and have a month to query it and then the direct debit takes the money from your bank account.

Pretty much everyone gives their bank details for eBanking these days, even the trades you get to work on your house like plumbers and electricians. they prefer it (well the legitimate ones who aren't working cash in hand to avoid tax) as it means they don't have to go to the bank. The traders won't charge you extra for not paying electronically though.

I do some online bill paying and funds transfers. However, I wouldn't want it to only be that way. I like having my paper money and using it. I only use cc when it's a 0% interest, otherwise I always pay the balance in full except on a rare unexpected occasion, like my dog needing an emergency 5000.00 dollar surgery, ugh. Hopefully those days are gone. I would never want to go all digital though.

What about gas/petrol, do you guys pay at the pump or in kiosk. In the uk we are slowly going more and more towards pay at the pump. The kiosk won't be an option before long, and self checking out at super markets.

I put my credit card right into the pump. I got hacked when using an ATM card, so never use that anymore.

Several credit cards have been skimmed over the years. No great big deal. It's quickly resolved.
An A.T.M. card got skimmed once and it was at my banks A.T.M.! A little bit bigger of a deal, but still rectified in two days. It would have been a huge deal if I had no money and started having overdrafts, etc.
I've also had someone swipe my tax refund two years out of the last 3. One refund took another 18 months for me to get re-issued to me.
It has made me ultra careful and very paranoid about electronic money. But it is working so far.
