Very cool! Did you hatch it!?

Thought you would like this guy. No. Picked it up from Jay at Turtles/Tortoises Inc. Couldn't believe he had them. The parents are pre-CITES so he could ship them across state lines without a permit. Do you know of anyone who breeds them? Want to find another hatchling or two from a different blood line since they mature rather quickly.

Nice. I noticed Jay had some listed.

These turtles are just amazing. Everything about them is impressive. The eyes are out of a horror movie. And they are laterally placed so they can see you from almost every angle.

The shell looks as though it is made of metal.

And the neck! Which isn't all that special, but it's just so cool in person. I tried to get some good shots but it was moving a little too fast so here are some slightly fuzzy ones.

And lastly the plastron. Bright orange with black markings. Or black with orange markings?

I will try to get some pictures with the good camera soon. I'm always saying that but I mean it this time.

Did Jay tell you how many adults he has? It might be possible for you to get enough genetic diversity from his group..

Tom Crutchfield comes to mind as someone who might have them. I would ask Paul if he knows anyone who might be producing others.

And transporting animals across state lines wouldn't be effected by CITES, just the ESA or state laws themselves. These are not on the ESA, and since they are not native, wouldn't be affected by state law.
