Evening all. I'm helping out a friend that needs a list of easy to get foodstuff for a hermanns tortoise. Anyone care to lend a hand?

spring mix is always good and easy...they can eat the same storebought greens as any other species, just no fruit, etc. I've also used tort-safe dried herbs and weeds from rosemountainherbs.com, like dandelion, marshmallow, red clover, violet leaf, calendula, hibiscus flowers, etc. I put the herbs in a bowl with mazuri, moisten them and mash it all up...about 1 teaspoon of herbs per pellet is the ratio I use. Chris also uses this method, especially in winter when fresh food is harder to find/grow. This method is a bigger upfront purchase, but the stuff lasts forever and is easy peasy to make...and the easiest way to get weeds short of growing them.

They can basically eat anything that Russians eat. I like the list on russiantortoise.org.
