Okay, so no red toe nail polish and sandles in the Aldabras yard:D The babes soaking are so cute. Yes, the one little guy, what a confident looking cutie. Great pics.:)

* Right, they think your toes would be strawberries, LOL!

I just took my grandsons to the LA zoo and showed them the Aldabra tortoises. These pictures are so neat. I did not know individuals raised them. How close are they genetically to Galapagos tortoises?

The aldabras at the LA Zoo are in very poor conditions. They have a water dish that isn't ever filled, red hanging lamps over hay on cement!

Today was medical day, LOL. Most of our females get mated on a regular basis and normal shell wear occurs. Several times a year we clean and treat the the most worn areas. Breeding season is getting ready to go wide open, therefor today was the day. We place the female on buckets in order to stabilize and immobilize them while we are treating the areas. This has proven to work exceptionally well with our mature females. They are very use to us doing this and tolerate it very well, no stress or discomfort, except for my back from picking them up and placing them on the buckets, LOL. This picture is of Peanut, she is usually very popular with the males during this time and her shell gets worn more than most. Thought this would be a good picture to share!

This is a fun time for us, many hatchlings and young aldabras amongst the mix. Everywhere you look there seems to be two little back eyes looking at you, LOL! These are about 3.5" or so and they stay in the shaded bushes and come out to the edge into the sun to thermal regulate or get food. We place pieces of lettuce, cactus, small nibbles of fruit, hibiscus leaves, etc. just outside the shade line in the sun. They run out, eat, and run back inside there shady spot!
