Just thought I would share this with you.

A friend of mine who is mad on tortoises, Had over 100 in her peak and over 20 different species has had this tortoise in her family for 107 years.
Its a Hermanns and was brought to the UK 107 yrs ago as a captured yearling. One of the guys who worked on the docks took pitty and stole this one and passed it on to my friends family.
Here is a picture of May on the left and her daughter June on the right.

That's pretty cool. We humans sure do take for granted the world of nature. We have to pass on history with stories and writings. The tortoise sees it all change through generations of families that pass on. Pretty old Herman that has seen so much.

That is a great story, thank you for sharing. It is wonderful that her family made the commitment down through the generations to care for this little living dinosaur. has she basically lived outdoors most of her life? Do you have more details about how she was kept?

I'll have a word in detail with her, She keeps it quiet what she does due to security, had some stolen before,

So neat! Too bad we're not like torts -- they hardly look a day over 40! ;D

I do sometimes worry about Lola's future and who will look after him if anything happens to me.
I don't think any of my nephews and nieces will make the necessary commitment, they haven't shown any interest in him and just think I am mad to have taken him on.
So I don't think Lola will stay in my family which saddens me. I just hope I have a chance to make sure he has a good home.

That crossed my mind too!
Realistically though I still don't know if I'd trust them to look after Lola and not just take the money and run.
There would have to be all sorts of conditions attached.

Yes. Seriously it is something to worry about. My kids may get into them when they are older, maybe even future grandchildren.
