Two substrate in an enclosure?

I've been roaming through some pictures and it seems that a lot of people have different substrate on two size. Is there a reason for it?

I'm about to get a redfoot and I bought Cypress Mulch and Saph Moss.

Should I have it half and half? or should I put the cypress mulch first and saph moss on top?

I used both of those and i was extremely pleased.at first I had the cypress throughout the enclosure and in the hide, I put the moss. I had extra moss so I just placed lil Mounds in random spots,that way he/she can decide where they wanna lay low. Its your decision! Best of luck!
